|
|
Hiya, I've been able to reproduce a result... I start Magic Engine and it hangs longer than usual [compared to my old computer].. then afterwards, when I quit out of Magic Engine, if I access "my computer" the system will hang for 10 seconds or so, then allow me access. Then, if I right click or do anything with the dvd-drive, the system hangs again for another 10 seconds. Appartently, after running Magic Engine, something goes seriously wrong with the access time of the drives on my computer. To verify this, I tried it with several drives and 2 different IDE cables, all produced the same result. This is occuring on an Intel computer with a Kentsfield processor, however, I don't recall anything like this on my previous AMD build with an Athlon 3800+. Any help would be appreciated because not only is Magic Engine taking about 10 seconds too many too startup compared to the older, slower computer, but it's also corrupting my dvd-drives for whatever reason until I reboot. Bizarre!

Hi,
Sounds like an ATA conflict. Make sure you've installed the latest drivers for your northbridge/southbridge and your DVD drive. Is your computer equiped with a VIA controller? Some experimental IDE drivers from VIA can slow down or lock up your system. Also, have a look at your Device Manager and check that all the transfer modes of your primary and secondary IDE channels are set on "DMA if available". _________________ Kaminarimon HES Music Archive | Tokugawa Corporation | YouTube Channel |

I don't see a way to upgrade the IDE controller on my Asus P5B-Deluxe via Intel's site or Asus'. They both offer a variety of drivers and such, but nothing that upgrades the IDE controller. There is an INF updater for chipsets via Intel which I've installed this morning and I don't see any difference. The fact remains that running Magic Engine cripples my DVD-drive completely and makes any aspect of the OS which accesses it passively unresponsive [such as opening my computer]... Very strange. |

Also to be noted, same behavior w/ the FX beta but the old magic engine .99 beta5 works fine. |

Check to see if there is a firmware update for your DVD Drive. Also, check for software that interferes with the disc drive operation such as any DLA (Drive Letter Access) burning programs or anything made by Roxio. Roxio's Easy CD-Creator adds a little program that is run every time you access your CD/DVD drive. |

Hey again,
I tried Rockman's suggestion and updated my firmware.... no luck. I also swapped out the IDE drive completley and replaced it with the old drive that worked flawlessly with magic engine on my AMD rig and it failed too, causing explorer and my computer to crash and the drive to become inaccessible.
I suppose now its probabbly the IDE controller albeit I searched yesterday extensively for an update to my intel drivers for an Asus P5B-Deluxe board and came up with nothing at all. Anyone know where I might find drivers? |

When the IDE cable is unplugged it loads super fast, maybe 1/2 a second. But when it's plugged in, its like 15-20 seconds to load.... drat. |

Check the jumpers on the drive. Make sure that you don't have a drive set to cable select connected with a drive that is set to master/slave. Either bot should be Cable select or one is master the other slave. If there only one drive on the chain master is your best bet (but cable select should work as well. Also check that your bios is set for AUTO on your IDE drives. |

Yeah, like I said, no updates on the Asus support page. Thanks. |

We love you too for not asking hardware related questions to the knowledgeable authorities. We are gamers in here, not tech reps from a big company like ASUS.I mean sure your problem has something to do with Magic Engine but think about it : Is it Magic Engine that broke your hardware or is it the result of cleaver programming that pointed out a hardware fault that 97.53% of the sloppy big house companies can't even discern? _________________ If you translate Pole Position in French with babelfish you get 'Position de Polonais'...
