|

I would love to have a button that says "View Manual" (or something) that could open an appropreatly named pdf manual. The atari 2600 emulator PCAEwin has this feature and I love it. It is great not having to change windows to find the manual..... |

Sorry , my last reply was made quickly from work. Let me explain...
This is a scanned game manual.

What I want is a button that can open the manual for whatever game is currently selected. It would be set up like the screenshots. In that, we would have a folder called "manuals" and any pdf that is named like the game (in that folder) would be opened with the button. You would have the pdf open with whatever pdf viewer is installed on the users computer (that's how PCEAwin does it). I know nothing about how to do all this or how hard it is, but it would be a nice feature. |

I really like this idea, not least because there is usually some cool art in PC Engine game manuals. _________________ The PC Engine Software Bible |

Well I certainly don't want to see Adobe Reader pop up right upon my 512x448 resolution screen after raping my CPU's bandwidth for 30 seconds, but a sort of inline documentation (in a lighter format if possible) would indeed be a neat idea. _________________ Kaminarimon HES Music Archive | Tokugawa Corporation | YouTube Channel |

I guess that I don't consider that....I play in windowed mode on a wide screen monitor so having another window pop-up beside it wouldn't bother me.
Pdf is a common format for online manual distribution so it would be a pain to use another format but I suppose it could be done....
As for Adobe Reader, Yes it is a massive resorce hog but thankfuly there are other lighter alternatives like Foxit Reader or others... |

Kaminari is right.
Adobe's Acrobat is a resource-thirsty bitch.

You're not the only one who uses this emu, but millions of people I guess (me in them, and I use it in fullscreen because it runs smoother). Sorry.
Maybe a lightweight PDF reader that NEITHER steal focus NOR chokes machine would be nice for your idea.
My regards,
Leonardo. |

Since PDF is an industry standard it wouldn't be out the question to have a PDF viewer built into the app rather than opening a separate viewer.
Are there really people out there that use Adobe Reader instead of a free self-contained solution like FoxIt? Really?
Thank God I use my Mac for most situations. Preview and Quicklook supports PDF out of the box so I never have to think about Adobe's bloated solution. _________________ → qrayg.com |

MagicEngine should focus on emulation.
That said, implementing the ability to link games to a folder containing respective manuals seems like an acceptable compromise.
I don't need MagicEngine to have a built-in pdf viewer. That's silly.
Associating specific games with manuals (that open with an application of my choosing)... well, that streamlines the experience.
Of course, you realize that if this feature were to be implemented, lkermel would be swamped with requests for manual scans _________________ "GunHed has just gone over the speed limit!"
