|
|
Forgive this stupid question, but how do I get ME to keep my control pad configuration? Every time I configure it in ME, it works fine, but once I exit and start at a later time, the configuration goes back to the keyboard layout, and I must input the controller settings once again.
Like I said, no problems with the controller WORKING, I just wouldn't mind having ME remember the pad settings:)
Thanks for any help! |

Check if your PCE.CFG file is not in read-only status. Other than that, support is a little hard without one's configuration info *hint* *hint* what's under the hood of your beige box? Tell us everything including, but not limited to :
OS
Most important parts ( video, audio, cpu, gamepad & so on )
Version of magic engine. _________________ If you translate Pole Position in French with babelfish you get 'Position de Polonais'... I think it's hilarious... from a French point of view. |

This is the 5th time I've tried to post this reply...man, now the ME forums hate me, too? lol
IBM NetVista
PIII 866 Mhz
Windows ME
GeForce 2 MX 400 PCI
SoundMax Digital Audio
SideWinder P&P USB
Thrustmaster Firestorm Digital 2 USB
Magic Engine 0.99 beta 5 demo
PCE.CFG various settings (nothing seems to help problem)
Like I said, other than ME not "remembering" my pad settings, it seems to run fine (crashed a few times but oh well). Maybe it's just a slight incompatibilty?
Good to see a fellow Canadian PCE fan! |

Try this:
1. delete your pce.cfg file.
2. create a Config folder in your Magic Engine root directory.
3. move the following files inside: backup.dat, backup.idx, games.idx, time.dat, k12x12.fnt, k16x16.fnt.
4. modify your INI file like this:
;
; config path
; --
; (pce.cfg,
; backup.dat, backup.idx,
; games.idx,
; time.dat,
; k12x12.fnt, k16x16.fnt)
;
config=YourDrive:\YourPath\Magic Engine\Config
Run ME, configure your pad, quit ME and see if there's a new pce.cfg file in your Config dir. If not, well... perhaps the demo simply doesn't allow to save your config |

that seems to have done the trick. Thanks a lot for the help!
Now I have another problem though:(...I put in Ys Book I&II and the screen froze (the CD boot screen, not the game title screen) for about 30 sec, then it went black for about 10, and then finally it went to the Duo CD player menu screen...what's up? I've configured my CD drive properly in the INI file, and CD games never seemed to have a problem in the 0.98 demo...again, any help is appreciated! |

Ah, CD issues... A long time favorite of this forum!
Some questions:
1. Is your game an original or a burnt copy?
2. Did you try any other game?
3. Do you use the Magic System or a real System Card?
4. Do you have the latest ASPI driver for WinME?
Look in your INI file for the following options and try to set them as indicated:
;
; CD-ROM audio input line
; --
; 0 -> first audio input line [default]
; 1 -> second audio input line
; ...
;
; (see the log.txt file to find out what are the line numbers)
;
cd_audio_input_line=
[...]
;
; CD-ROM drive
; --
; 0 -> first CD-ROM drive [default]
; 1 -> second CD-ROM drive
; ...
;
drive=0
;
; CD-ROM drive letter
; --
; (Windows 2000/XP only)
;
; D:
; E:
; ...
;
drive_letter=
;
; SCSI driver timeout
; --
; change the delay that the emulator waits when accessing
; the CD-ROM SCSI driver, 0 is infinite delay
;
timeout=0
Another thing worth checking is the UltraDMA option in your CD-ROM properties (Device Manager). Make sure it's deactivated and reboot your system.
If that doesn't help, run Magic Engine once more with the log option activated and post your log here. That may help us better understand the problem, though I strongly suspect an ASPI problem. |

an imaging program was interfering with ME...it works fine now that I unstalled the other program. I couldn't even get it to work with Easy CD on my comp anyway. Thanks for all your help, now the only problem I have is the backup RAM not working...but that really is no problem at all after my CD drive not working! Plus obviously I just use ME's save file system now.
Thanks again! |

That's a known issue. Here's the trick: the Back-up RAM is not saved in real time, but only when you pop up the Magic Engine menu (via Esc key for example).
You're welcome. |
