|
|
Hi man:
I've tried Magic Engine 0.98 & 0.99 demos on my 2 PCs, but there is a problem: the game CDs only runs on my Plextor SCSI cdrom.
I've instaled last ASPI drivers in both PCs, but when I try to run a CD game on an IDE drive (DVD LG, CD-RW or CD-ROM IDE) it always display de msg no cd!.
This happens in both Windows 98 and Windows XP.
What's wrong?
Thanks a lot. |

One possibility I know of, there may be others...
Check if your cd-rom drives have good multi-read capabilities. Usually all cd-rw have pretty decent multi-read while some older ( or cheap newer ) cd-roms 'sometimes' have problems with some formats...
The fact that your cd-rw don't see the cd's puzzles me. Are they originals or backups? Since they play in your plextor drive, even if they are backups then the cd's are fine...
Check your IDE settings. Try to get your hands on some benchmarks that tests the cd-roms, something like Sisoft Sandra comes to mind. Your problem is IDE since SCSI is working flawlessly...
Maybe, just maybe... _________________ If you translate Pole Position in French with babelfish you get 'Position de Polonais'... I think it's hilarious... from a French point of view. |

Thanks man, I'll look for that test to view my CD-ROM multi-read capabilities. The DVD units are cheap, it's true, but the CD-RW it's not as cheap. The SCSI CD-ROM obviously is more expensive, but it's starting to fail (it has 3-4 years old).
With no ASPI instaled I obtain Disk error! msg, and with ASPI instaled I obtain no cd! msg
See ya. |

Look in the log.txt file to see if MagicEngine detects all your CD-ROM drives correctly... I'm surprised that it doesn't work with XP though, under XP MagicEngine should always detect all the CD-ROM drives, even without an ASPI driver. Are you using the lastest version of MagicEngine (v0.99b5)? _________________ David Michel |

I originally started using Magic Engine 0.9.8 on my old windows 95 pc and it worked well enough. However since building my new pc and trying to run the new Magic Engine 0.9.9b1-5, I cannot use my cd rw or dvd r drives. Magic Engine detects the drives with no problem but no matter what I do to the INI file, Magic Engine will not access my drives and tells me that no cd is present. |

I'm having the same problem under Windows XP. I've tried all sorts of numbers and stuff in the INI file, and the log file says it's detecting my two IDE drives (D: and E but it won't access the drives to boot a CD. |

Thanks a lot people, it works fine now with the last version. I've edited pce.ini file as I've seen in other post and now it works, on W98 and WXP.
See ya. |
