I notice that there are several problems with the game Strider Hiryu, especially in graphics. Several characters appear in the middle of the frog leaving the stage and confusing. Not to mention the sound that is virtually impossible to arrange the TOCs. Rolling Eyes

Although one of the older versions of Magic Engine did play Strider (with limited artifacts), the best way to play it is by converting the disc image to a CHD and playing it with the latest variant of MESS. To do this you need:

    1. Burn-at-once to convert your original, store-bought disc to an ISO with a valid TOC (it should be named image.DAT file, but it is just an ISO). Make sure to select read raw, read CD text, scratch detection, and raw rw subs.
    2. CHDman (a command line application) to convert your image.dat and image.toc to image.chd using the following command: chdman -createcd image.toc image.chd

Though MESS is inferior to Magic Engine for most games, when it comes to most of the Arcade Card games, MESS does emulate them far better. This also goes for Fatal Fury Special, Fatal Fury 2, Art of Fighting, and World Heroes 2.

However, Strider for the Turbo Duo is terrible. It is known to be an unfinished beta (or alpha) that was rushed through development to be one of NEC Avenue's very last PC Engine CD games. The cut scenes and the sound track are the only interesting part of the game. It is really awful.

According to a trusted source...

The reason Strider does not work well with Magic Engine emulation is that it is not truly an Arcade Card game. It is standard PC Engine CD game that was simply coded so that it would not work with out the Arcade Card.

Basically it is a 1991 abandoned beta that NEC Avenue pulled out of their butts in 1994 and modified to help sell off remaining hardware stock. When the Magic Engine tries to map 2 MB of memory for a game that uses 72 kb of total RAM, it causes serious problems.
