How to find a cheat (part 1)
There are two methods to find a cheat, if the value is visible, like a life counter or a time counter, the value can be directly entered in the cheat engine to start the search, but sometimes you don't see the value, like for exemple a life bar, in such a case the cheat engine can search for values that are increased or decreased. In this first part we will see how to find a cheat when the value is known.
Let's see how to freeze the time counter in Bomberman '94!
Load Bomberman, play a bit, press 'P' to pause the game and note the value of the time counter. We will search the seconds.
Open the cheat engine window and enter the value :
Then click on the 'Begin search' button :
The cheat engine will find several results (this number may vary) :
This time there are not many results but sometimes there are a lot more. Let's try to refine the search. Go back to the game, play a few more seconds, press 'P' again and note the seconds :
Open the cheat engine window and enter the new value :
Click on the 'Continue search' button :
Repeat these steps until the results don't change. For Bomberman there should be only one address left, but this is not always the case, sometimes the game store the value in several places, rarely more than two or three places though.
Click on the address to select it :
And click on the 'Add' button to create a new cheat :
We just created a new cheat, now let's change its name :
We want the time counter to be frozen, so let's click on the 'Freeze value' button :
You can now go back to Bomberman and enjoy infinite time!
The cheat is always active, to disable it click on the little box at the left of the cheat name :
As an exercice you can try to find the address of the life counter too.
Click on the 'Restart' button and start a new search!

You can delete this reply if you feel it's out of place.
There are games where the time is not 59 decimal but 89 that is 59 but in hex. And there are lot of games where the timer is 9 then 8 then 7, when reach 0 it start at 9 again, but rest the 5 to 4. Stores each value at independient address, one next the another.
And some lives are one value above what is showed in screen, so if you have 2 it doesn't mean the value stored at memory will be that, it can be 3, meaning that the live 0 will be the value 1 at memory. _________________ http://gshi.org/ - Covering all your cheating needs. |

Yeah, I hate it when games store the values different from what they show on screen.
For example, on the game you might see your lives as 0, 1 or 2 lives.
But the game stores them as 1, 2 and 3 respectively. _________________ liebe |

I'm not sure if this is the best thread for this, but it involves ways to find cheats
VisitntX I have a question for you.. how do you find invincibility cheats like you do in some of the games you found cheats for? Like say for bomberman, how on earth did you search to find an invincibility code? |

Are people still interested in learning how to make codes? I can put up some PDFs on how I make codes, I have been getting some great results, and started to re-visit some desperately needed game. _________________ My Turbo GrafX-16/ PC-Engine Code Database Click HERE
