|
|
Hi there!!
I have a Genius 8 button Gamepad that I wanna configure with the Magic Engine.
Only problem is that the configuration program on magic engine is rather confusing and I've been unable to configure it for the gamepad. Now the gamepad does indeed work since I've used it for various other applications
(including emulators).
I really would appreciate help on this since now I'm not even able to use the keyboard anymore to play the games. I would love it if the gamepad were to work but now I've lost keyboard control on top of that!!
Please help!!
Alex
Thanks!!
But that's exactly what I tried before and to no availl!! The config says "1 gamepad detected" but when I try to configure it's all screwed up.
It wants to map up as left and left as down and it doesn't map any of the buttons on the gamepad.
In addition I don't find any pce.cfg file. I have the pce.ini file
Is this what you are talking about?? Should I really delete the .ini file?
Hi Specineff!!
Yes the controller is connected via USB and it's the only possibility for this controller. The controller is a Genius 8 button gamepad (it's your run of the mill generic gamepad).
What I can't figure though is that this problem only occurs with the Magic Engine. I got Nesticle and ZSNES emulators and I've been using the gamepad on those from the beginning with absolutely no problems!!
Any tips or help would be great!! I've restarted my computer several times thinking that this might help but it hasn't!! The only thing I haven't done yet is to disconnect it and then restart the cpu. You think this will really help??
Also, if it doesn't work then fine I could live with that but as it stands now I've lost the keyboard default settings as well!!
Alex

Ok.. pay attention.
Make sure your controller is plugged. Open ME. Open the config option. Select pad 1. press enter. Notice how the green window blinks? Ok. move with the keyboard arrows the blink until you reach the button you want to map onto your controller. Press enter again. Now press the button you want to use in your controller for that PCE Joypad button. Example: Move the blink to Run button, press enter, press the button you want to use as Run in your controller. And so on until you map all the keys you want, though you may only need Up, down, left, right, Run, select, I and II for most games.
Hope it works. It kinda took me a bit to figure it out when I first used ME, but it's not too hard to get the hang of it.

Do like Specineff told you, it should work fine.
(what's wrong with my config menu? )
And if you want to restore the keyboard settings just delete the 'pce.cfg' file. _________________ David Michel |

Tell me if it's USB or gameport. Also, if you have a pic of URL for me to see the controller, I would be glad to help some more. If it's USB that may be the problem. I had similar issues with a USB Gravis gamepad pro, but it was just a matter of removing it from the control panel, restarting, and plugging it in again. Also, does the controller come with some sort of control panel application thingy?
More info would be appreciated.

Ok Alex.. I have both Nesticle and ZSnes.. and haven't had problems, except for a slight glitch which I think may be giving you trouble. If this doesn't fix it, then I don't know what will...
Unplug your controller and restart your CPU. Don't connect your pad again.
Go to control panel and check what controllers your system is showing on "Gaming options". If you still see one when your controller is plugged, that's the issue. Remove it manually, and restart again.
After the restart, open gaming options again, and plug your controller. If it's detected, you should be set. Also, test it using the calibrate option in there.
ME should detect it now. If not... maybe you should try getting another pad. A sidewinder or Gravis Gamepad pro should do it, and they are not too expensive for 15-20 dollars. Good luck, and hope this fixes it for you.
