Okay guys, I'm a pc engine fanatic. I registered Magic Engine a few years ago and had no problems through several computers that I built myself. For school reasons, I recently sold my latest computer and purchased a Compaq laptop. I also use a Soundblaster MP3+ external USB soundcard. The combination has worked flawlessly. I am able to play all sounds and audio cds in a variety of applications.

However, now I'm very upset because Magic Engine (and Hu-Go!, so obviously it's not just an ME problem) plays the PCM sound through my external soundblaster card, but only plays the cd tracks through my default onboard sound card and laptop speakers! That obviously is horrible.

I unchecked the "enable digital audio" box in my cdrom device settings. CD tracks were STILL playing but STILL through the onboard sound card. I checked the "use only default devices" in the audio settings and selected the soundblaster card, but still the cd sound came from ONLY the laptop speakers (if anything, shouldn't this result in no cd sound?). Then, I even disabled the damn onboard sound through device settings, and the cd audio STILL PLAYED ON IT!!!!! What the hell? Please help me. I am very computer literate

And please don't tell me to contact compaq customer support. I've been providing tech support at a university for the last 2 years and usually I am able to diagnose problems that these companies' tech support $6/hour workers can't find in their binders (beause don't we really all know they are just glorified fast food workers with big binders of common information)?

I have a Xitel MD1 external decoder, and cannot force the CD audio+PSG mix through it either. It's either the onboard sound card or nothing. Why not just plug your speakers to the headphones out so you can get the full mix?

God.. I'm positive version 1.0 of ME with the Digital Audio function will solve these problems, and will become one of the most downloaded files on the web the day of it's release. I can't believe I have held this long without snapping.

Actually, the reason I wanted to get this solved instead of plugging the speakers into the laptop out jack is because it doesn't sound that great. I have a graphic EQ on the soundblaster that keeps everything from sounding tinny. But hey, I played the turbo duo on a 1-speaker crap television for years, so it would still be a step up I guess. I didn't even know about the upcoming ME release. Looking forward to it
