I don't want the burden of opening up my computer to connect the cd-rom to the sound card, so I tried extracting an image of a cd game (as an example, I will use Ys III) using CloneCD. I then mounted the ccd image with Daemon's Tools. Magic Engine won't recognize the mounted image. What do I have to do next? |

Well, after I read some messages on this help forum, I realize that I had to fix the configuration on the .ini file. I did so as shown in some of the messages. However, I still can't figure out how to play the mounted image. How can I do this? |

You need to edit this part of pce.ini:
Code: | # ----
# CD-ROM settings
# ----
[cdrom]
;
; CD-ROM drive
; --
; 0 -> first CD-ROM drive [default]
; 1 -> second CD-ROM drive
; ...
;
drive=
;
; CD-ROM drive letter
; --
; (Windows 2000/XP only)
;
; D:
; E:
; ...
;
drive_letter=
|
If you are using Windows 98 and its aspi layer, then set drive="the number of the virtual drive." For example, if you have two physical drives, then your virtual drive would most likely be drive number 2 and you would set drive=2.
If you are using Windows 2000 or XP, just enter the drive letter of your virtual drive: drive_letter=X:, where X is a variable representing the letter of your virtual drive.
That's all you have to do besides mounting the image in your virtual drive.
To troubleshoot, look in log.txt. It should have a section similar to the following:
Code: | [CD-ROM INIT]
scanning NT scsi drivers...
- F: error!
- G: error!
- H: error!
checking CD-ROM drives... no adapter found!
opening ASPI DLL... OK
scanning ASPI devices...
- drive 0: adapter=0, unit=0, lun=0 [type=5]
- drive 1: adapter=0, unit=1, lun=0 [type=5]
- drive 2: adapter=1, unit=0, lun=0 [type=5]
select drive 0
CD-ROM timeout set to 0
create dummy rom... OK
searching game backup RAM in database [10000001|00000000]... not found
clear and initialize a new backup RAM |
This tells you which drive ME is trying to use. |

Ok, I did that. The game works, but there is still no music when I load it up. Is there some configuration I have to do to get the music to work from my hard drive? |

Make sure that you are using a real system card image (syscard3.pce) and not the built in MagicSystem.
In Daemon Tools, make sure that "Analog Audio" is checked in the options.
Which operating system are you using?
In Windows XP, you might have to go to control panel-system-device manager and change some settings. Right click on the icon for your virtual drive. Go into properties and deselect "Enable Digital CD Audio for this CD-ROM drive."
Hope this helps |

Thanks for your help. Of course, however, I am now experiencing problems with the audio fading. I play Ys Book 1 & 2, get to Zeptic Village, and it is still playing the overworld music, mixed with the town music. I must be the millionth person to ask about this, but is there a way to fix it? Is this problem even a big issue? Will I still be able to play through the game with this problem? |

Go to this thread and look for my last post. Even if it doesn't work for you, it won't prevent your games from running correctly. |
