Hello -- I'm using the Super System 3 ROM and I still can only get basic efx sounds when using both CD games and Super CD games -- I run Windows XP and I can only boot up using my DVD-R/CD-R drive -- can I somehow set the program to use my other CD-Rom drive?

Either way, any info on how I can get music from these CDs would be very helpful since I paid for this. It used to work before I had Windows XP.

Thanks!
John

I now see this has been a common problem having read these threads following my posting -- I really don't want to crack open my computer. It's really odd -- When I play "Dragon Slayer", I hear everything that is not background music. All voices and "in-town" music works just fine. When I venture to the overworld, the effects and battle effects work, no music -- this has to be fixed somehow without fitzing with wiring the cd-drive directly to the soundcard --anymore info would be great --

will this bug be fixed in the upcoming ME 1.0?

This is not strange: this is called audio CD.

If you want CD music to work with your current version of Magic Engine, you will have to crack open your system. No voodoo magic will make it work for you. Now you can also wait for the forthcoming 1.0 release which should fix your problem. To make a long story short, Magic Engine currently doesn't support digital playback -- only analog playback -- and thus needs a CD-ROM audio cable plugged between your sound board and your CD-ROM drive.

Oh, if you wonder why it doesn't work with WinXP, well... it's most probably because your computer was sold without that so-called audio cable (which used to be mandatory in the past on Win9x/ME based systems).

Thanks for all the info -- I guess I will just go for the audio patch. Thanks a lot for the explanation!
