I tried a few different CDROM/DVDROM drives and they all exhibited that 1/5 pause. I tried 2 Lite On drives and a current Pioneer drive.
I request that the creators of Magic Engine chime in here and let us know if there is a definitive CDROM/DVDROM drive currently in the marketplace that will run CD games seemlessly (without this 1/5 pause).
Please let us know.

There's nothing much David or Cédric can do about it, apart from adding support for digital playback (which may suppress the pause since the sound would be buffered). Let's wait for Magic Engine 1.0 to find out.
The problem of the loop pause in analog playback may be due to the nature of the ATAPI protocol itself. You could try using an external SCSI drive and see what it gives. For the record, the loop pause on my own Asus CD-S400 (IDE/ATAPI) is barely noticeable. |
