It should work with DVD-ROM drives, in the same way as it works with CD-ROM drives.
Maybe something is misconfigured in pce.ini. Are you using a genuine system card image?
Please post the [CD-ROM INIT] and [BOOT CD] sections of log.txt, found in your Magic Engine directory. |

From your log file it looks like ME is recognizing your drive, but is unable to read the game disc -- it reports a blank table of contents.

I have had this happen to me was when I was using Nero Drivespeed in conjuction with a Liteon 163D DVD drive. Are you using Drivespeed, or any other similar program to control the speed of your drive -- if so, I would try to run ME with these programs disabled.
The only other times I have seen this happen were when no cd or a blank cd was loaded in the drive. From the log file, I assume you are running Windows XP or another NT based OS, right? Do you get the same result when you set drive_letter=E: or F: ? How about your Alcohol virtual drive... does that work if you use a cd iso image?
I can't think of anything else for now... |

I'm not so sure if it does read the CDs or not.
In fact the DVDRom wasn't spinning or having any activities even I press boot CD so it can't b.
Besides my nero isn't activated so the drivespeed prog is not loaded.
I did try popping 2 discs into both drives at the same time.
Both r not responding at all.... |

You need to specify a drive letter. Have you tried Tomasz suggestion?

Yeah I solved it.
Its due to the Drivespeed.
Its been set to only 8X tats y.
After I switched it to maximum speed then the drive starts to move.
But 1 thing tat puzzled me is that the CDs doesn't has bgm or sounds.
I used the method to boot the CDs using syscard3 rom file but still no sounds~ |

Do you mean that CD Audio tracks do not play (or do in-game sound effects not work)?
To get redbook CD Audio to play there must be a physical cable connection between the audio-out jack on your drive and the cd audio-in jack on your soundcard or motherboard.
If this connection is present, then make sure that CD Audio is not muted in your sound mixer. |

Missing sound effects can be caused by a problem in emulation. Magic Engine is pretty good right now at playing sounds, but it should become even more improved when version 1.0 comes out.
Missing background music (redbook cd audio) is usually caused by not having a cable connection between the cd drive and sound card (see my previous post for more details). If this is the case, then you would have to install one of these inexpensive cables to get music.
Note: some cd games use PSG, not redbook, for background music, so in these games you would hear background music without such a cable (e.g. music inside the villages of Ys 1&2) |
