Make sure you have a real syscard3.pce and make sure that if you are using a virtual drive program to enable analog audio within the settings... |

Using a real syscard3.pce is a very good idea. However, for certain games, I would recommend using a real cd-rom/dvd-rom drive rather than a virtual drive. This is because magic engine sometimes mutes the cd-audio input line (e.g. while you enter a village in Ys 1&2), and a vitual drive does not use this line to play music (it plays music through wave out). Thus you can get cd-audio playing when it should not.
It is best to use a real drive with an analog cd audio cable running from the drive to the soundcard. Of course, for best results, the speed of the drive should be throttled down to no more than 8x. Furthermore a good drive should be chosen, which changes audio tracks seemlessly -- otherwise a split second clicking noise will be heard when a track loops or is changed. All this, especially the last part, is much easier said than done unfortunately... |

In theory it would, but our TG-CD systems and Duos are getting quite old right now (10+ years). For CD-ROM assemblies consisting of moving parts and inexpensive semiconductor lasers this is quite ancient, and sadly hardware failures do arise. Furthermore, when they break, these things are difficult, if not impossible, to repair without access to replacement parts.
Now all my old game systems are in storage and I use emulators exclusively if I ever want to play classic games -- it's just more convenient for me. |
