Greetings,
I was simply wondering if anyone else had experienced Ys Book I & II freezing while speaking to Goban about Darm's Tower in the Thieves Hideout? Once he wishes me luck on my trek, the game seems to stop dead in its tracks. I've tried this on two of my PCs and the same holds true. Thanks.

Here's what you can try : start the game, click continue, choose display password then choose the corresponding game. Then post the password it gives you. This is the fastest way for you to get input as its doubtfull that a lot of people have a password for Goban...
Just double check the password as this will ensure you of a prompt answer to your problem  ... |

Hi, there.
In fact, the game locks there only with Magic System. If you try it with System Card 2 or System card 3, it will works just flawlessly.
Even though you solved your problem with the password, I suppose you'd like to know that. =)

So there you have it mendou... I my self usually use a true systemcard rom for the moment BUT this will change when David fixes the small bugs inside Magic system

That shouldn't be much of a problem.
Just pay a visit to any ROM provider, look for the (usually called) GoodPCE database, get the ROM named 'Super CD-ROM2 System V3.00 (J).pce', put it in your ROMs directory, edit the Magic Engine INI file to point at the correct path and there you go. The 'System Card 3.0' in the Boot CD menu should now be available.
Your INI file should look like this:

[path]

; system card paths
; --
;
system_card_1=
system_card_2=
system_card_3=D:\Emulation\Magic Engine\ROMs\Super CD-ROM2 System V3.00 (J).pce
