well, all gfx in this game is squares! wonderboy is a square, houses are squares, even the sword is a little square!  the rom is verified, and I have tested it with both my pc's, a celeron1000/TNT2 M64 and an athlon1800+/GF2gts |

The Rom could be a Bad dump or an Overdump rom - The problem with some game roms is there is so many different roms for it - depending on where you download your rom from they may just have given it the wonderboy in monster land name - I would recomend and suggest going to www.romcenter.com and downloading Romcenter not forgetting to get the data file for PC engine and checking the rom that you are having problems with.
Just to give you an idea of how many roms are out there - here is a list
Wonderboy in Monsterland (J)

Wonderboy in Monsterland (J) [a2]
Wonderboy in Monsterland (J) [b1]
Wonderboy in Monsterland (J) [b2]

Wonderboy in Monsterland (J) [T-French_Partial]
o.k just tested all other roms - the only one that works is Wonderboy in Monsterland (J) and Magic Engine reads it as Bikkuriman World - so I would say you have one of the other 9 roms.

heh  All my roms are good roms! I test them with romcenter as I said, rom is verified...
Mine is: Wonderboy in Monsterland (J) [T-English]
and in ver 0.98 of magic engine worx great! ver 0.99b4 seems to have broken it...
I found another (good) translated rom that does not work, and has the same probs... this time it is son son 2, translated (j). Is there a prob maybe with the translated roms?
just checked it with 0.98, son son 2 does not work in this ver too, but wboy does... weird, heh?  |

hehehe well there you go - I only have 99b4 and haven't used 98 with other roms - but Wonderboy in Monsterland (J) is the only one that works now so maybe that is something to look at and fix maybe

Actually while on this subject I have noticed that a lot of the other dumps for games don't work either - the ones with
[a1][a2][b1] - translations etc etc etc - don't work - they have Blocky gfx or don't run

Are the ROMs zipped? If yes try to unzip them, the .zip unpacker in MagicEngine doesn't like all the .zip files.

but, with what should I zip the roms in order to work? zlib is a good idea? |
