|
|
The frame rate I am getting with version 1.0 is abyssmal on my computer. I may not have a top of the line Pentium 4 but all my other emulators work with an acceptable frame rate using high res filters so I know it can be done. Please David fix this soon! I can only get a good frame rate in 1x mode and why else would I want 1.0 except for the high res mode? If you're wondering, I have a P3 733mhz. Yes it's not the best but it gets the job done. Cheers,

You'll have to wait for david to include the auto frame skipping . For now, you MAY have a speed and frame rate boost by asigning Turbo Mode to a key. You can do that in the keyboard config dialog.
(It's not meant for this, but it MAY help you a bit , it sure did help me, tough it still doesn't run at the correct speed/frame rate. I've said it once and i'll say it again: yet, considering my crappy integrated videocard and it's crappy driver, i'm amazed it runs at all ) |

You'll have to be more specific than that. What do you mean by abyssmal frame rate? ME 1.0 runs rather fine on a P2@400 without any fancy filtering.
Now if you're talking about hires, you're in for a reality check. In any emulator supporting them (except for ScummVM), HQ2x filters never ran at full speed on my old P3@667 -- I don't see how it would run much better on your 733. Magic Engine's hires mode may still have some room for optimization, but for now don't expect it to run silk smooth on anything below 1 GHz. |

Hey cool! Turbo works pretty good in 2x mode even with hi res on. The animation and sound are a little choppy but not too bad. It gives enough speed to make games playable. Thanks for the tip man! |

UH OH. With PR 7 the turbo button has to be HELD DOWN to stay on. That really sucks. However , it's cool that you can select different turbo speeds now (2x, 3x, 4x, 5x).

I mean REALLY SLOW so as to render games unplayable.

Even on 2x mode with no filtering and hi res mode off i still get a very slow frame rate... like 14 fps or less.

In other emulators I use, the 2xSAI (Kreed) and Supereagle (Kreed) filters work fine with auto frame skipping. The animation is still fairly smooth and the games are totally playable. |

2xSAI and SuperEagle are smooth on fairly low-end machines. HQ2x is not. If you get 14 fps in ME without any filtering, then the problem definitely comes from your system. |

You seen to have exactly the same problem than me, exept my box runs at 850 Mhz. It's probably due to your videocard or your videocard OpenGL drivers. What videocard do you have? I have a SiS 630/730 (an integrated card).
*Prays for the soon adding of the auto frame skipping* |

sis 630/730 chips have godawful GL support, btw. Hell, those things lag drawing the windows GUI, much less a game... slap a 10$ tnt2 in it or something if you must. |

Right-click on your desktop and select Properties. In the Display Properties, you should read a Display: line that indicates your monitor and your graphic card/chipset. |

Ok. I have no idea what this means but this is what it says: Dell D1028L on Intel Corporation 810 Graphics Controller Hub. Does this indicate what my graphics card is? Probably sucks. I have a soundblaster audio card though. |

Looks like you have an Intel graphic chipset embedded on your motherboard. I wouldn't go as far as to say it blows big time, but it sure is old and I have the gut feeling that its OpenGL capabilities are extremely limited -- hence your poor framerate results.
You can wait for David to develop a DirectX renderer, or give a try to the latest drivers for your Intel 810 chipset. Make sure you correctly select your OS in the pop-down menu and follow the installation instructions. |
