Hi everyone, just a little shout for help . I had to clean up my system completely recently and have had to start from scratch with Magic Engine. As far as I know, everything is set up the same as before (ASPI drivers installed etc), but I can't get ME to work the way it did.
Here's the problem: I have 2 CD drives, one a DVD-ROM and one a CD-RW. The CD-RW is connected to the soundcard, so I've always used it for PCE-CDs with no real problems. However, what is happening now is some games will not work with this drive (Dracula X, Gate of Thunder 4in1). If I use the other drive, they work fine (minus the CD audio obviously). Here's the log for when I'm using the CD-RW drive:

Suggests it's the CD itself, so I copied it onto a brand new one, but it had the same result.. I can't really understand why it would boot with the DVD-ROM but not with the CD-RW, when it previously worked fine. Tried using the actual system card rom etc, so I'm pretty much at my wit's end. Incidentally, Sapphire works with the CD-RW which makes it even more confusing.
I hope someone can shed some light on this.
Thanks a lot in advance |

Tricky stuff... I remember a similar problem when I was running Win98.
The only things I can think of are the 'digital playback' option (which doesn't exist in Win9x, if I recall correctly) and the 'UltraDMA' option, both accessible via the Device Manager. Go to the properties of your CD-RW and check that 'UltraDMA' is deactivated. |

Quote: | the 'digital playback' option (which doesn't exist in Win9x, if I recall correctly) | With the exception being Windows ME, heavily based on windows 2000 : they share a LOT in common, even the updated look. So ME,2000 & XP all have 'dp', while 95,98,98se & NT don't unfortunately
What's more puzzling is, I use WinME, UltraDMA & Digital playback are both on... ( I left the audio cable in there though : I must do some tests someday ;p ).
Smells fishy if you ask me... _________________ If you translate Pole Position in French with babelfish you get 'Position de Polonais'... I think it's hilarious... from a French point of view. |

Thanks for the quick replies . I ended up going for the cheap and cheerful option - connecting the sound cable to my other drive. I'd still like to know what the matter was though, I tried out what Kaminari said with no luck. |
