Help, I did a stupid thing: messing around without making a backup. I've ended up with no sound.
With version 0.96 I get the following message in DOS before the GUIopens: could not find good IRQ. With version 0.91 or withe new demo verion eveything works fine.
Wich file do I have to change?
Kind regards from Belgium

The whole program, dude... 0.91 and 0.96 are old versions... Get the latest 0.99b5 and give it a try. If you're a registered user, your keyfile should continue to work. Come back here if you've got further problems. |

If you would read to the end of my message: the demo version 0.99 works fine.
Registering has nothing to do with the sound problem, I think. So how come that in one version the machine has a bad IRQ and in the others not?
Pretty new year. |

Oh, missed this part. Sorry, have no clue at all
OK, 0.99 works for you. Why would you need to go back to 0.96? |

Well, as I said, the 099 is not registered. The old verions are registered. I bought them like that (togehther with the second hand computer).
Anyhow, I like to understand how this emulator works.
Greetings and happy you-know-what.

Are you sure to get this error message with v0.96? Only v0.91 can output this error message, v0.96 doesn't manage the sound IRQ itself, it uses DirectX to play sound.

Hmm, the autoexec.bat file in C:\, look for the BLASTER environment variable and the 'I' settings, but that may be difficult to change if you never used DOS before, an easier solution would be to re-install the DOS driver for your sound card. What sound card do you have in your PC? _________________ David Michel |

It is indeed with 096 that I have no sound.
These are my Soundblaster Live! settings that I found in the autoexec.bat:
SET BLASTER=A220 I7 D1 H5 P330 T6
When I check my system settings, for the Soundblaster Live card, it says that I'm using IRQ9, without conflicts.

Your BLASTER environment variable is set up for IRQ7, try replacing I7 by I9. _________________ David Michel |

I just checked the source code of the DOS version of MagicEngine, in fact ME doesn't rely on the I settings of the BLASTER variable, it auto-detects the IRQ itself... something's going wrong... hmm, since your BASTER variable was set up for IRQ 7, may be that's the correct setting for your sound card, you could try to change the IRQ setting in Windows to use IRQ 7 instead of IRQ 9 and see what happens. Also you can re-install all the SB-Live drivers, this may help too. _________________ David Michel |
