This is the official Magic Engine forum so only Magic Engine related questions please ( although the 'occasional' off topic question is tolerated but hey, why not start your journey here the good way? ). But, you might want to visit www.rigg.info *hint* *hint* for more details on 'backups'...

To really answer your question about Magic Engine's compatibility with 'backups' : any properly burned cd will do, just get it from a reliable source. Again, the RIGG group can answer all this better than us ( well no but they are out there for this purpose so... ).

The "RIGG" group doesn't seem to be accepting any new members. So, just for an fyi, because I use copies of my own originals so that they don't have any chance of being ruined, I use NERO to make backups.

1. You use Daemon tools to mount the image.
2. Then you use Clone CD to do a cd copy and bam you got yourself a perfect copy of a pc engine game.

I've tried the above method using the CD copy feature of Nero, with no avail. Is there really any sort of difference between the programs?

use CDRWin. Do a disc image. Have the settings set at:

Reading: RAW
Error Recovery: Ignore
Jitter Correction: Auto
Subcode Analysis: Disable
Read Retry Count: 30
Subcode Threshold: 300
Data Speed and Audio Speed can be set with any speed if you have a new burniner. If you have an older burner, use the slowest speed available.

Any particular version of CDRWin? I'm using v3.9 and I don't see any option to get an image, unless I'm really that clueless and should be hitting the record/backup disc buttons...

When you open CDRWin, do you see an image that shows a CD with an arrow pointed towards what appears to be a Hard Drive??? It is also the Third Graphic Box on the top row of the program. Use that, that will allow you to make a bin/cue copy of the image to your Hard Drive. Then, when/if you burn the image to a disc, use the Image that looks like a laser writting onto a CD. Also known as the first image on the top row.

Should solve your problems.

An added note...DO NOT USE CLONE CD for making PCE CD images....it makes THE worst images for PCE CD,but is fine for other formats.

Hmm. I once made a backup of Super Darius with Clone CD and it worked just fine. Of course, my mom's laptop has an incredibly good burner, so probably that's why.
