|
|
Hello all, I have a fairly new Compaq Presario running Windows ME with two CD drives: DVD-ROM (D) and CD-R/RW (E). When I boot CD backups using Magic Engine v0.99b5 with System Card 3.0, I run into one of two problems:
(1) DVD-ROM - Games load with no music (sound effects are there)
(2) CD-R/RW - Audio CD interface loads, games will *not* load
Normally I get CD audio for music CDs through both drives, but is it still possible that I don't have an audio cable connecting the DVD-ROM drive to the sound card? Also, is there anything I can do about the CD-R/RW drive refusing to load the games?
Thank you very much, in advance! |

To provide a little more info here, I've been able to play numerous other CD games through the DVD-ROM drive with no problems, so I don't think this is a missing audio cable issue. The missing music only occurs with Magic Engine, and my CD backups do not appear to be faulty (the music tracks are included). I've researched the Forums and tried all of the suggestions I could find:
Disable "digital playback"
Disable "DMA"
Set CD-ROM
Set CD-ROM letter
Set cd_audio_input_line=
None of this has worked for me. Hopefully Magic Engine 1.0 with digital playback support will solve this for me! Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |

Hmm, it's probably a missing audio cable issue.
There are several ways to play CD audio, if you use the functions provided by the Windows API this will always work, with or without this cable, but the problem is that PC-Engine CDs are non-standard and are not recognized by Windows so I can't use any Windows functions, what I do to play CD audio is to send a 'play' command directly to the CD-ROM drive, this works quite well, but without this audio cable you won't hear anything. The best is to wait version 1.0.
About your CD-R drive, first check in the log.txt file to see if MagicEngine detects this drive, if it detects it you just need to change the 'drive' option in the pce.ini file to use it, but if it's not detected then we have a problem, installing a newer ASPI driver may help but this is not sure. Try Adaptec latest driver : http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/suppbyproduct.html?cat=/Technology/SCSI+Software&fromPage=driverindex _________________ David Michel |
