Hello,

I recently tried making some BIN/CUE files of some of the games in my PC Engine CD collection (using CDRWIN).

I also made ISO/WAVs of some as well.

I then played them using Daemon Tools v3.44 with Magic Engine 99 Beta 5.

To my surprise there is a constant amount of skipping/choppiness in all the BIN/CUE & ISO/WAV games when Redbook audio is playing (And as you may already know there is no CD audio fading because of ME not having Digital Audio Support).

This does not occur at all when I play the games straight from CD.
Only the minor 1/5 pause occurs when a redbook audio track is loaded.

Does anyone else experience this same kind of strange choppiness when playing CD games as BIN/CUE or ISO/WAV when using Daemon Tools with ME?

Does anyone know how to stop this strange choppiness?

I remember I use to have this same problem with an older computer and an older version of ME when running games directly from CD.
But this brand new machine doesn't do that with this DVD drive.

Cheers!

Colonel Fuzzy

Nope. It may have to do with your burning method.

You'd better ask for support at NEC Archives since we don't answer to that kind of questions on this forum -- our plate is full enough with questions about original copies, not even mentioning the legal mumbo jumbo.

Kaminari,

When you refer to a burning method what do you mean?

I am not burning CDs.

I am taking an original copy of a game, say Dracula X, and making a BIN/CUE out of it.

When I play that BIN/CUE using ME, with Daemon Tools, the play experience isn't a flawless/super smooth 60. It's hard to notice the slight choppiness but it is there.

However, when I play that same CD directly the play experience is perfectly smooth.

I learned about running BIN/CUE files using Daemon Tools from this very forum. Daemon Tools was involved in one of the discussions which I started previously. If you recall it had to do with the fading in ME and the 1/5 pause.

I can't see how ME would be the cause of this problem.

This should be a Daemon Tools issue or a CDRWIN issue so I will consult other sources.

I tried Yame v038e and it played the BIN/CUE image super smooth using Daemon Tools.

But after playing for a while the sound effects become garbled.

Also, the color seems to be incorrect in Yame. ME produces a much more colorful picture.

I tried a few other things with ME and I realized that I had the Vsync on.

I turned it on to get a super smooth frame rate when playing Emerald Dragon (SNES version sucks) directly from CD. For some reason the game started to chop up when I walked around the first town. Turning Vsync on fixed that problem.

When the vsync is turned off the skipping is close to nonexistant but I can still detect it.

If the Vsync is turned on then the skipping/choppiness is 5 times worse when playing BIN/CUEs with DaemonTools.
