First, I'd like to thank David for this new release which has some very nice features.
Unfortunately, I can't enjoy it fully because of an awful issue with the way audio tracks are handled. Access to audio tracks seems to be terribly slow (and cpu hungry ?!!), and CD sound keeps fading it and out. What is weird is that this issue occurs not only on my real drives, but also with Daemon Tools (v. 3.46).
No need to say I never had ANY problem with the former version
A minor bug is the CD menu which seems to be broken for me (I've got 6 CD letters).
<--- after pressing space
Any hint about the 1st issue ??
Btw, my OS is W2K SP4, and I use the Syscard 3.0
Edit: ooops Gamecaptor was faster than me to post about that LOL

I admit I tested with only one cd-rom drive.
This will be easy to fix though, no biggy.
About the CD audio issue I dunno what it could be. I don't read data continously, I read small chunks, may be that's the problem, I will add some options to control that. _________________ David Michel |

I remember that your first release of the Magic Player had a similar issue with digital playback, but you fixed it successfully in the last version 0.1.2. Maybe it's related? |

Ok, a little update for a v1.0 PR2...
Hability to configure cdda buffers helps a lot ! The default settings were still producing the same audio stutter... But I've maxed buffers and buffer_size values, and now it seems to play smoothly on a real cdrom.
Good job, David !
Now, the (new ?) and remaining glitches...
1) For some unknown reason, I've got only 1 drive listed in the CD menu.
T...Daemon Tools: not listed
U...Daemon Tools: not listed
V...Daemon Tools: not listed
W...Daemon Tools: not listed
X...SCSI CD Writer: not listed
Y...IDE CD: listed
They're all detected in the log.txt file though:
[CD-ROM INIT]
scanning drives...
- drive Y: PIONEER DVD-ROM DVD-500M (port=1, unit=1) [CDROM]
- drive X: TEAC CD-R56S (port=2, unit=4) [CDROM]
- drive T: Generic DVD-ROM (port=3, unit=0) [CDROM]
- drive U: Generic DVD-ROM (port=3, unit=1) [CDROM]
- drive V: Generic DVD-ROM (port=3, unit=2) [CDROM]
- drive W: Generic DVD-ROM (port=3, unit=3) [CDROM]
found 6 CD-ROM drive(s)
Weird... IDE devices only ?
EDIT: If I change one of the DT drive drive to Z, the real cdrom (Y) is still the one listed...
2) Is it normal that in windowed mode audio is disabled when ME loses focus ? Not really a major issue...
3) Street Fighter 2 is not working. Black screen at start, and a cryptic message in log.txt:
loading ROM file : "D:\MagicEngine\1.0\roms\Street Fighter II Champion Edition.pce"... error! |

Thank you!
What values did you use?

It's not a bug, it's a feature.
It's a temporary fix, go read the explanation on the news page.

Yes, it's normal. The emulator should pause when this happen though, but this is not implemented yet.

I will fix that, it's an easy one. _________________ David Michel |

Well, I've just put the max range values for each setting:
buffers=75
buffer_size=25
I've not changed delay value.
delay=
I've not tried thoroughly all my CD games , but it seems to work fine for Puyo Puyo...
Oh btw, I don't have the "PCE CD" label anymore in the CD GUI. Only a "???" label.
Looks like v1.0 PR2 doesn't detect a PCE CD as it did in v1.0 PR1.
That's why I only got the Y: drive detected, even if there's a CD mounted on a Daemon Tools drive, and nothing in the real drive.
In v1.0 PR1, my real and virtual drives had the correct labels...
EDIT: Any way to force the use of a drive letter ? I'd like to test more games, but I only want to use the ISO images I made (I don't want to f*** my beloved original ones, fear of the scratches LOL) |
