Ok, this might sound stupid but I'm having problems opening the new magic engine 1.0 program. Is it a GUI or dos prompt program? The old Beta was definetely a GUI. |

Well, when I click on the .exe I get a magic engine 1.0 window that pops up then it maximizes to full screen while being black the whole time. Then it just exits and nothing. I dont even get a main menu? |

That probably means there is an open gl problem. Make sure your video card supports Open GL, and update your drivers.
Some old cards won't work, i think, but you can always give it a go I tryed to run ME 1.0 PR on my old p2@400Mhz box wich has a Diamond Monster Fussion 16, and i got nothing... BTW, if anyone has pointers on this, let me know |

Try modifying your PCE.INI file to run in Window Mode:
Code: | ;
; windowed mode
; --
; select windowed mode at startup
;
; y -> windowed
; n -> fullscreen [default]
;
windowed=y |
If that does work, it may be that you're using a version prior to PR3. (Btw, there were two PR3 released the same day, you need to get the newest one.) Hope it helps! |

Wow, now we're talking
Sadly I don't think you'll find any decent driver for a Banshee-based card that supports OpenGL. Try your luck at Diamond, but I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you. |

I also had another question. Can the new Magic Engine 1.0 recognize external USB DVD/CD drives? My internal drive has issues and I would love to run CD games off of my external drive instead. |

You should try it out. Basically, ME scans all your available CD-ROM devices and uses the first one in which it detects the presence of a PC Engine CD game. That detection process can take quite some time; in my case, it needs about 15 seconds to detect my second drive. |

I'll try to download and install those drivers, but i'm almost sure they are the same, or an earlier verion of the ones i have installed.
The only way i had to pull OGL at all, was to use mesa 3d drivers, which are some generic OGL drivers for old voodoo cards, sadly, they don't work with everything
I'll see if i can find an updated versión of that and try as well. |

Ok, I figured out that the system cards have to be renamed as follows:
syscard1.pce
syscard2.pce
syscard3.pce
I'm using the japanese V1.0 cdrom card
I'm using the USA V2.01 cdrom card
I'm using the USA V3.01 cdrom card
What does the Game express card have to be named for magic engine to recognize it? And was there ever a Arcade Card rom? I dont see a Jap version of the arcade card? |

ge.pce = game express
The Arcade Card was just a memory upgrade. The ROM microcode was the same. |

I dont think magic engine recognizes my laptops external USB CDROM drive? Maybe I have to configure the .ini? I have a hunch that the JAP V3.0 system card is the Arcade Card. Back in the day, I bought a Arcade Card for my Turbo Grafx 16 CDROM system. The Arcade Card menu was identical to the Super system card menu.

Ok, it appears magic engine recognizes my drives but when I open up the program and choose boot cd my D: only shows up?
[CD-ROM INIT]
scanning drives...
- drive D: TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-R2102 (port=1, unit=0) [CDROM]
- drive F: AXV CD/DVD-ROM (port=2, unit=0) [CDROM]
found 2 CD-ROM drive(s)
I want magic engine to recognize my F: How do I do that? |
